Would Your Smoke Alarm Pass The Tick Tock Test?
When was the last time your smoke alarm went off when toast wasn’t burning under the grill? Can’t remember? If so, you need to sign up to a new website Register My Appliance.
It has been set up by the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances (AMDEA) so manufacturers can track the location and lifecycle of domestic appliances in case they require a safety-based repair.
The website launch ties in nicely with the government’s current Fire Kills campaign. Called the ‘Tick Tock Test’, it challenged people to test their alarms before the clocks went forward last weekend.
Chief Fire & Rescue Adviser Peter Holland, who is a government spokesman, said “Smoke alarms are a well-proven life tool, but they’re no use if they aren’t working. You’re at least four times more likely to die in a fire if you don’t have a working smoke alarm, so taking the time to test the smoke alarms in your home could be a truly life-saving decision.”
It’s a requirement for all rental properties to have a smoke alarm on every floor and it’s a tenant’s responsibility to make sure they’re working.
