News Flash Govt says unavoidable home moves can go ahead

25 Mar 2020

The Government has said that house moves can, if absolutely unavoidable, go ahead. The following statement has been presented:

  • Home buyers and renters should, as far as possible, delay moving to a new house while emergency measures are in place to fight coronavirus.

  • If moving is unavoidable for contractual reasons and the parties are unable to reach an agreement to delay, people must follow advice on social distancing to minimise the spread of the virus.

  • Anyone with symptoms, self-isolating or shielding from the virus, should follow medical advice and not move house for the time being.

We understand additional guidance will be published on this in due course, but where moves do need to go ahead all individuals involved should take care to follow Government guidance on social distancing and hygiene.

Whilst this is some good news for many of our frustrated sellers and buyers, there are some 'grey areas' within this directive which do need further qualification.  As soon as we have more information we will let you know.
