The fundraising efforts to rebuild High Toynton’s nave received an £800 boost thanks to kind donations at our February General Sale, held at Stanhope Hall.
A section was included dedicated to raising money for the Church of St John the Baptist and the generous nature of vendors and bidders alike did not go amiss - the company doing away with their vendor’s commission to maximise donations.
An appeal for lots brought in 43 items to sell and once everything from a crucifix to a car jack had been bought, over £800 was available to go towards the project. The most valuable lot was a 2018 Half Sovereign, which raised £120, alongside £72 spent on a bedroom suite and a popular-with-purchasers croquet set which reached £70.
The Church tower collapsed on Sunday 19th January and since then a fundraising page online has been set up, explaining “ the village needs to raise at least £30,000 to pay for just the immediate structural repairs to the building.” Over £2,500 from this “just giving” page together with the auction total and donations and loans from other sources, means that the target of £30,000 to pay the builders has now been reached.
