A sizzling summer for bungalow sales!
Whether they are big or small, low or high price, in good order or bad, demand for bungalows' in our region has never been higher!
Yes, as we have previously commented in our newsletters, if you own a bungalow and are looking to be on the move, you could find yourself sitting on what the market views as being the ‘hot seller’ for 2015! So why is demand for this style of home possibly at an all time high? Well here are just four reasons why:
- An ever expanding and rapidly aging UK population! - Whether we like it or not the over 55's and the retired are the dominant population statistic the UK has to grapple with over the next two decades. The 'baby boomers' of the 1960's are now all entering the market and looking ahead to living in the convenience of single storey accommodation with good low maintenance values and a higher than average energy rating....and who can blame them!
- They are not building them anymore! - That's what a would-be buyer commented to us all too recently. Well, they are still being built, but not in the volume we saw in the late 1960's through to the mid 1990's. At this time large and small estates of bungalows were built in the city, market towns, villages and coastal resorts across the county. However, as development pressures have increased over the last few decades, so have land prices, and as a consequence these land hungry homes have given way to two, three and in some cases four storey houses, which are more economical to build and turn a high percentage of profit for the developer.
- Retirement Buyers from across the UK relocating to Lincolnshire - Yes, I am pleased to say that there are still thousands of buyers relocating into the county every year who fall for its many charms and a very relaxed life style. And again, who can blame them! They are often moving away from areas of the UK with, by comparison, significantly higher house prices, leaving them with the opportunity to buy a higher quality home for less money in Lincolnshire, as well as some extra funds left over to invest and assist with their retirement in this age of low interest rates.
- Great homes offering great potential! - Absolutely, and this has seen an increase in demand for bungalows from an even broader range of the home buying public over the last few years. Bungalows from the 1960's and 1970's are often great value for money. They tend to offer well-proportioned reception and bedroom space, as well as larger than average plots. As a consequence these bungalows are often viewed as being great development opportunites. They may well offer internally and externally, room to expand out and/or up into the roof space. The building may even have the structural substance to bare the weight of whole new storey of accommodation. Bungalows in need of refubishment are very popular indeed!
