Auctions return with a successful restart
The lockdown may have stopped our traditional monthly furniture sales, but we have taken it as our opportunity to try selling online. We held our first auction (‘online only’) on Wednesday 29th July 2020.
There was some trepidation as to whether there would be enough bidders to cater for even a small sale. In the event we were more than pleasantly surprised by the interest inspired.
The sale consisted principally of those lots entered for our April Catalogued Sale, and amounted to just under 300 items of books, coins, silver, jewellery, clocks, pictures and furniture. We were helped by using the UK Auctioneers platform, where one had to register to bid (but the sale can be viewed free of charge).
Prices were exceptional in the coin and silver sections, reflecting the pre-lockdown interest. However, we were also pleased with the prices in the furniture section, which had been particularly depressed before March.
The stats record there were over 11,000 catalogue views, and our sale brought 87 extra bidders to UK Auctioneers. Thank-you to all who bid whether successful or not.
Principal prices were as follows:
Royal Mint Countdown to London 2012 Olympics £6000
A bracelet of 8 gold coins £2000
